Report: Brett Brown unlikely to keep job if Sixers lose Game 7

The Philadelphia 76ers will have a lot on the line when they face the Toronto Raptors in an enormous Game 7 on Sunday night. One of those things may well be their coach’s job.

According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, Sixers coach Brett Brown is considered unlikely to keep his job if the team falls short in the second round of the playoffs. In fact, chatter within league circles has intensified that Brown must reach the NBA Finals to secure his job for next season.

The Sixers invested heavily into this year’s team, bringing in Jimmy Butler early on in the season before adding Tobias Harris at the trade deadline. The Boston Celtics are out of the way, too, and the expectation is clearly, at minimum, an Eastern Conference Finals appearance.

Brown is only a year removed from a contract extension. Clearly, that doesn’t guarantee job security, as the Sixers want to see significant progress in the playoffs after bringing in the players they have. That starts with winning a Game 7 on the road in Toronto on Sunday.
