Charles Barkley wants to be a GM, says he’s not afraid to suck

The Philadelphia 76ers are looking for a new GM after saying that Rod Thorn will be out as the team’s president of basketball operations. Over the past few years, Charles Barkley has expressed interest in becoming a GM. He even said a few weeks ago that he was interested in leading his former team.

Barkley’s reason for wanting to be a GM is fantastic, as usual.

“I want to [be a GM]. I had a couple of casual conversations, not this year or last year, but like three years ago when I first mentioned that I want to be a GM. I feel like I am going to be to be honest with you,” Barkley said during an interview with Waddle & Silvy on ESPN Radio Chicago.

“I want that challenge. I am not afraid to fail. Trust me, some of these other GM’s suck already. I’ll just be in a long line of guys who suck.”

Barkley used that reasoning to explain why there was nothing embarrassing about Shaq being interested in the Magic GM job.

While it’s true that many GMs in the league don’t draft well and/or constantly find their teams at the bottom of the standings, why sabotage yourself by handing the franchise over to a clown like Barkley or Shaq? I already know what Shaq’s work ethic was like as a player, so I highly doubt that would change as a front office man. Maybe Barkley would be more dedicated, but it’s hard to take him seriously.
