Donovan Mitchell impressed by Gilbert Arenas, Bradley Beal backcourt
One of the ways sports fans are trying to pass the time during the coronavirus outbreak is with hypothetical debates, and Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell got in on the fun this week.
NBA Central tweeted a graphic that featured four past-present backcourt pairings and asked its nearly 175,000 followers to choose the best. The pairings featured a current star player and a past star player who played for the same franchise, and Mitchell was paired with former Jazz guard Deron Williams. While that would be a fun duo to watch, Mitchell was more impressed with the prospect of a Gilbert Arenas-Bradley Beal backcourt with the Washington Wizards.
I can’t front that backcourt in Washington would be crazy

The other two pairings were Kyle Lowry and Vince Carter with the Toronto Raptors and Trae Young and Joe Johnson with the Atlanta Hawks. You couldn’t go wrong with any of those backcourts, but you can understand why Mitchell chose to highlight the Arenas-Beal pairing.
Beal is averaging a career-high 30.5 points per game this season, and he has taken his game to the next level since John Wall suffered a torn Achilles. Arenas also averaged around 30 points per game during his prime years with Washington, so the duo would be borderline unstoppable from a scoring standpoint.
