ESPN has taken advantage of the downtime in sports by bumping up the air date for “The Last Dance,” a 10-part documentary series about the 1997-1998 Chicago Bulls. They have been rewarded with huge ratings for the show so far, but they’ve really had to bust their behinds to make it happen.
The series was originally set to air during June during off days in the NBA Finals. But when the season was temporarily suspended in March, there was some clamoring for the programming to be moved up. The documentary was only in post production and not read to be aired, so the production crew worked hard to finalize some episodes. They’re still in that process right now.
The Los Angeles Times’ Arash Markazi reported on Friday that the ninth episode of the series was not completed until Friday. He says the final episode is not completed yet.

Even if the final episode is not complete, that does not mean it’s not close. There are several people who have said they have already watched the entire thing. That means barring a few tweaks here and there, the episodes are probably all done.
ESPN is airing the programs two episodes at a time every Sunday night. Episodes 5 and 6 are on May 3, episodes 7 and 8 will air May 10, and the final two episodes will air on May 17.
