Kobe Bryant could have street named after him near Staples Center

Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant was part of the fabric of the Los Angeles community for nearly 25 years before he died in a helicopter crash on Sunday, and city officials are trying to determine what the best way is to honor his legacy.

According to TMZ, LA City Council members have been discussing the possibility of naming a street after Bryant. While no decisions have been made, there has been talk about making a tribute to Kobe across from Staples Center in the LA Live area, and one idea that has been floated is naming a street after the former NBA MVP.

Kobe spent his entire career with the Lakers and helped them win five championships. Many great players have come and gone in Los Angeles, but he was easily one of the most popular. He also remained very visible around the area after he retired, so a street name won’t be the only way the Lakers and the City of Los Angeles honor him.

The death of Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, and seven others has been felt across the globe. Many NBA players have already changed their jersey numbers in honor of Kobe, and the NBA is making a significant change to the All-Star Game format that includes a tribute to him. We can expect that theme to continue for weeks and months to come.
