Kobe Bryant has been enjoying a farewell tour in his final NBA season, but one area where things are not as warm and fuzzy is with his parents.
Bryant was asked by HBO “Real Sports” reporter Andrea Kremer whether his parents would attend his last game. Bryant said he was not sure and ultimately concluded “probably not.”
“I’ve thought about it,” Bryant said. “I’m not sure. Probably not.”

“The relationship with family is extremely important. But you also can’t force things,” Bryant said. “I hope and I pray that one day, things will be better between us. Unfortunately, today’s not that day.”
That’s actually pretty sad. Bryant’s relationship with his parents was frayed when they frowned upon his marriage to wife Vanessa Bryant at such a young age. He later got into a dispute with his parents in 2013 over sold memorabilia.
So many fans and colleagues have been able to share enjoyment in Bryant’s career and impending retirement. It’s unfortunate that the two people who brought him into this world aren’t taking as big of a part in that.
