Replay reviews in last minute of Wichita State-Marshall draw heavy criticism

March 16, 2018 by Grey Papke • Comments

What should have been a very exciting finish to Marshall’s upset victory over Wichita State was diminished by the glacial pace of the final minute, which was marred by three replay reviews.

Marshall won 81-75, but the final minute of play took nearly 20 minutes in real time due to a pair of out-of-bounds reviews plus a review of the lineups before one of the reviews.

The final minute of Marshall-Wichita State took 18 minutes, 26 seconds— the longest we've ever recorded in the NCAA tournament

The brutal pace was met with horrible reviews on Twitter, and understandably so.

By my count, the last 1:55 of the game took 23 minutes in real time. https://t.co/YgYbsBoi3E

No one involved in this game should ever be allowed in a college basketball arena again as punishment for these reviews

Those replays took so long this is no longer March

Replay at the end of Wichita State-Marshall…a fiasco. Sound effect: air out of a balloon.

Can't wait to tell my grandkids about all the great replay reviews I got to witness at the 2018 NCAA Tournament

— Aaron Torres (@Aaron_Torres) March 16, 2018

Can we replay review my bracket, maybe it will turn out I didnt pick Arizona.

The last minute of Marshall-Wichita State took longer to complete than the entire A-side of the Beatles' first album pic.twitter.com/VunOakZ0RF

Look, getting the calls right is important, but this took way longer than it needed to. No wonder millennials don’t watch basketball these days. That was brutal.
