Did Barstool Sports founder lure top QB recruit to Michigan?

Dave Portnoy wearing a crown

Michigan pulled off a huge victory in recruiting on Thursday, and Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy may have had a role in the move.

Bryce Underwood, who is the No. 1 overall recruit for the class of 2025, announced that he was committing to the Wolverines. Underwood, who is from Belleville, Mich., had previously been committed to LSU, but he changed his commitment.

Portnoy, who is a Michigan alumnist and fan of the Wolverines, had previously indicated he was prepared to spend millions of dollars to bring his school a top quarterback. Given Underwood’s change of heart, many wondered whether Portnoy had a role in the move.

The Barstool Sports founder certainly wasn’t shy about celebrating the recruiting news via social media.

“We do five stars. We do No. 1 recruits in the country. We do national champions. I told you,” Portnoy said while boasting about the big recruiting win.

Portnoy said in the video that he knew Michigan had a plan in place and that Underwood’s announcement was imminent.

Once we start seeing Underwood appear in interviews and other videos for Barstool Sports, we’ll know for certain that Portnoy had a role in making things happen. His celebration of the news makes it seem like he had a role in things.
