There have already been two college football head coaches fired this season, and Billy Napier may be the next man up in that regard — and that’s not a good thing.
SportsBetting.ag has released odds for who will be the next coach to lose his job in college football. Napier is the favorite, while a few other struggling coaches aren’t far behind him.
Here is their list:
Billy Napier (Florida) +225
Scott Satterfield (Cincinnati) +375
Tony Elliott (Virginia) +450
Brant Brennan (Arizona) +800
Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State) +800
Kalen DeBoer (Alabama) +900
Sam Pittman (Arkansas) +900
Luke Fickell (Wisconsin) +1000
Mark Stoops (Kentucky) +1000
David Braun (Northwestern) +1200
Mike Locksley (Maryland) +1600
Dave Aranda (Baylor) +2500
Bill Belichick (North Carolina) +3300
Florida has begun the season 1-2 and have lost games to South Florida and LSU in consecutive weeks. Their next three games come against Miami, Texas and Texas A&M, meaning they could end up 1-5 before long. Their schedule is rough, and when you factor in that Napier is now 20-21 in his career as Florida’s head coach, you can understand why he heads this list.
Many of the coaches on the list have been on the hot seat for some time. Oklahoma State, for instance, was dissatisfied with Mike Gundy recently. The Cowboys’ 69-3 loss to Oregon in their last game certainly didn’t help perceptions.
Both UCLA and Virginia Tech got the firing train started by dismissing their coaches on Sunday. UCLA fired DeShaun Foster, who was in his second season and had begun the year 0-3. Virginia Tech fired Brent Pry, who was in his fourth season and had also begun 0-3.
