Deion Sanders has been dealing with some more health issues recently, and the Colorado coach had to undergo another surgical procedure on Tuesday.

Sanders met with the media on Tuesday and revealed that doctors have discovered more blood clots in his foot, which was an issue for the Hall of Fame defensive back in the past. He said he would undergo a four-hour procedure but expected to be able to return to work on Wednesday.

The 58-year-old Sanders said the recurring blood clot issue is “hereditary” and that there is nothing he can do to prevent it.

“It is what it is. We found what we found. We knew what it was. I have a wonderful team of doctors at UC Health and a wonderful team of trainers here to make sure and ensure my health. It’s not like I’m doing something (wrong),” Sanders said. “I got a lot of well wishes of people talking about, ‘You need to slow down. You need to take a break.’ It has nothing to do with me working at the level that I’m trying to compete at. It’s hereditary. It is what it is. It’s nothing that I could have done to stop what’s transpiring, nothing that I could have taken or something that I’m just not abiding by. It is what it is.”

Deion Sanders gave an update on his health today, speaking for 2 minutes about the return of blood clots in his foot that he revealed Saturday night.

Following Colorado’s 35-21 loss to TCU on Saturday, Sanders shared some troubling news about his health. He said he has been “hurting like crazy” and suspected he had more blood clots in his leg. Unfortunately, he was correct.

Sanders has dealt with numerous health issues in recent years. has He revealed in July that he had been battling bladder cancer and underwent a successful surgery to treat the issue. Sanders also had two toes amputated on his left foot in 2021 following a clotting issue that developed from surgery. He then later underwent emergency surgery in 2023 to address a blood clot in his groin.

Colorado fell to 2-4 on the season with the loss to TCU. Sanders had to take some time away from the team over the summer as he underwent his cancer treatment, but he does not expect his latest procedure to impact his work schedule.

The Buffaloes will host No. 22 Iowa State on Saturday.
