Former Michigan Wolverines quarterback John O’Korn made a bold claim regarding his position among what is considered a loaded quarterback class for this year’s NFL Draft.
For teams looking for their quarterback of the future, this year’s draft provides several options. Josh Allen, Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold, and Baker Mayfield are among the big names. All could be selected in the top five. Mason Rudolph and Lamar Jackson could hear their names called at some point early in the draft as well.
O’Korn has declared himself more NFL-ready than all of the above names.
“I think I’m the most NFL ready quarterback in this draft, just as far as terminology and knowing what to do on a day-to-day basis, and game planning,” O’Korn told The Wolverine. “I was part of the game planning meetings with Coach (Jim) Harbaugh and Coach (Pep) Hamilton and the whole staff all last fall.”
“I’d choose myself over any other guy in this draft in that regard,” O’Korn continued.
Contrary to O’Korn’s beliefs, the stats seem to tell a different story. In nine games, O’Korn completed 53 percent of his passes for 973 yards with two touchdowns and six interceptions as a senior. After the Wolverines’ loss to rival Ohio State, he broke down into tears in the locker room. He also had his Wikipedia page vandalized.
O’Korn is not expected to be selected during next month’s draft. However, that could give him extra motivation to use the skills he learned from coaches Harbaugh and Hamilton to prove to the teams that passed on him that he is the most ready to succeed at the next level.
