Nebraska’s football team delivered a touching gesture early in its season-opening game against Fresno State on Saturday.
Facing a 4th-and-3 on its opening drive, the Cornhuskers lined up to punt, but they only sent 10 men out for the play. They did not send out a punter because they wanted to honor late punter Sam Foltz, who died in a car crash on July 23.
We'll always remember #SF27.
Well done, @HuskerFBNation & HUskers fans.
Great class, @FresnoStateFB. https://t.co/moG174xLP5

Nebraska took a delay of game penalty, which Fresno State declined. Nebraska then sent this fitting tweet:
We had to take a delay of game, weren't able to get all 11 guys out to punt in time.

Foltz and former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler were killed in a car crash while driving home from a kicking camp in Wisconsin.
Foltz was the Big Ten’s punter of the year last year and was on the Ray Guy Award watch list. The young man is also being honored with an “SF27” decal worn on the Cornhuskers’ helmets.
