A UAB player pulled a dirty move on Tennessee’s kicker during Saturday’s game.
The Volunteers were up big on UAB during the first quarter of Saturday’s game at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tn. Late in the quarter, the Vols had jumped out to a 21-0 lead after Tennessee kicker Max Gilbert converted an extra point.
Senior UAB safety Sirad Bryant came over after the kick, bumped into Tennessee holder Jackson Ross, then stomped on Gilbert’s foot. Bryant was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, but was not ejected.

The incident was quickly labeled dirty, and even the ESPN commentator characterized it as “bush league.” It came after another UAB player, Donald Lee, was ejected for targeting on a first quarter punt.
UAB went on to lose the game 56-24. That score masks how lopsided the matchup actually was, as the Blazers were trailing 42-7 at halftime and 56-10 late in the third quarter.
Perhaps it is not a huge shock that UAB players would lose their cool so easily. Their coach, a former NFL quarterback, has an unfortunate habit of doing the same thing at times.
