Wake Forest’s shoddy defensive performance against Notre Dame on Saturday cost one coach his job.
Wake Forest announced on Sunday that defensive coordinator Jay Sawvel has been fired. The move comes a day after the Demon Deacons gave up 56 points to the Fighting Irish.
Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson said the move was a “difficult decision and not a spur of the moment decision.”
Tom Gilmore was elevated from defensive analyst to a full-time position on Wake’s staff as an outside linebackers coach.
Wake has allowed 33.5 points per game this season, which is 106th out of 130 teams.
