One week into the NFL season, New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn is already threatening to bench some of his players.

Glenn issued a firm threat to his players following the Jets’ 34-32 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Specifically citing penalties and turnovers, Glenn said that he would not hesitate to sit players on the bench if they continued to cost the team games.

“You will not be on the field if you cause us to lose games,” Glenn said, via Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.

The Jets only committed one turnover in the form of a fumble on a Xavier Gipson punt return early in the fourth quarter. That turnover set the Steelers up with a short field, which they used to score a touchdown. The Jets also committed seven penalties for 74 yards, including a costly defensive pass interference call on cornerback Brandon Stephens during what turned out to be the Steelers’ final drive.

Glenn very much promised to bring a new attitude to the Jets this season. This is certainly a very public brand of accountability, though time will tell how serious he is about following through on it.
