Jacksonville Jaguars safety Barry Church is being punished by the NFL for his controversial hit on Rob Gronkowski in last weekend’s AFC title game.
The league announced on Friday that Church had been fined $24,309 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on the New England Patriots tight end in the Jaguars’ 24-20 loss, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The hit occurred on a drive late in the first half and resulted in a concussion for Gronkowski, who missed the rest of the game.

While Gronkowski should hopefully be cleared in time for the Super Bowl, many thought that there was malicious intent behind Church’s hit, forcing the veteran safety to defend himself.
