Browns OC Todd Monken not expected to stay on Kevin Stefanski’s staff

Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns have decided on a new head coach and are hiring Kevin Stefanski, and they are expected to be searching for a new offensive coordinator in the near future as well.

Browns offensive coordinator Todd Monken is not expected to remain on Stefanski’s staff, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports. Monken could take a job at the collegiate level.

Monken was likely going to lose his job even if the Browns stuck with Freddie Kitchens, as there were reports of disconnect between the two coaches midway through the 2019 season. Cleveland’s offense was described as “dysfunctional,” with Kitchens calling the plays but Monken taking a lot of the heat for the team’s struggles behind closed doors.

Before he got to Cleveland, Monken enjoyed success as the offensive coordinator with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had the Bucs in the top-10 in the NFL in points in 2017 and 2018, and they led the league in passing yards in 2018.
