The Kansas City Chiefs finally got some positive news about absent offensive lineman Josh Simmons.
Simmons is expected to rejoin the Chiefs within the next few weeks, according to Nate Taylor of ESPN. The rookie left tackle has been away from the team for family reasons since Oct. 12.
A potential target date for Simmons’ return could be around the team’s Week 10 bye. The Chiefs have two more games before the bye, including a showdown with the Buffalo Bills on Nov. 2.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Thursday that the team has been in communication with Simmons and that it is not a “negative situation.”
Virtually nothing is known about Simmons’ family situation right now. The Chiefs have spoken as if it is major, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes said at one point he was “praying” for Simmons. One report even characterized the situation as “extremely serious.”
Simmons immediately became a starter for the Chiefs after drafting him 32nd overall in April’s draft. He helped solidify the offensive line, though backup Jaylon Moore has performed well in the rookie’s absence.
