Chiefs officially release Eric Berry
The Eric Berry era is over in Kansas City.
The Chiefs announced Wednesday that Berry has been released at the start of the official league year, ending a nine-year tenure with the team.
Chiefs released five-time Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry. Had Berry been on KC’s roster Friday, $7.25 million of his salary would have become fully guaranteed.

Berry grew into an elite player with an incredible story, having overcome Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2014 to return to the field. However, injuries have limited him to three regular season games over the past two seasons, which was a big reason the Chiefs seemed to explore secondary additions during the season. With the addition of Tyrann Mathieu, the writing was on the wall for Berry.
