It looks like the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback situation will remain at DEFCON 2 level instead of taking the plunge into DEFCON 1.
According to a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Monday, rookie signal caller Cody Kessler is expected to play in Week 6 against the Tennessee Titans after a rib injury scare on Sunday.
After a scare yesterday, #Browns QB Cody Kessler (ribs) is expected to be back under center vs. the #Titans, I’m told. He checked out OK.

Kessler was hurt late in the first quarter of the 33-13 loss to the New England Patriots after taking a hit from linebacker Dont’a Hightower. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game and was originally said to be day-to-day with a “painful” chest injury.
The former USC star took over under center for the Browns after both starter Robert Griffin III and backup Josh McCown went down. Kessler was later joined on the sidelines Sunday by Charlie “Clipboard Jesus” Whitehurst, recently signed by the team out of necessity, after Whitehurst suffered a knee injury, forcing Cleveland to insert wide receiver convert Terrelle Pryor at QB.
The state of affairs for the Browns at the quarterback position this year has been as silly as it’s been sad, but hopefully this latest development returns them to at least some semblance of stability against the Titans.
