The Miami Dolphins have made their long-awaited decision on the fate of wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

The Dolphins are releasing Hill and making him an unrestricted free agent, according to multiple reports. The move will save Miami $22.8 million against the salary cap.

Sources: Miami’s eight-time Pro-Bowl WR Tyreek Hill is being released. Hill turns 32 on March 1, is recovering from a dislocated knee and torn ACL, and now will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career.

This has been coming for months after Hill suffered a devastating knee injury during the team’s Week 4 game. The ACL tear ended Hill’s season, and ultimately his career with Miami.

The Dolphins acquired Hill in a blockbuster trade in 2022, hoping he would become the centerpiece of the team’s offense. He put up strong numbers in his first two seasons with Miami, surpassing 1,700 receiving yards twice, but his numbers faded significantly in 2024 as the offense struggled due to inconsistent quarterback play.

In all, Hill ends his Miami career with 4,733 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns in 54 games. The team made the playoffs twice during his time there, but failed to win a game in either appearance.

Hill should have no problem catching on with a new team, though everyone will want to make sure his knee is healing properly before signing him. The 31-year-old has mused about retirement, however, so that may be something to watch for.
