Tom Coughlin’s dismissal as executive vice president of the Jacksonville Jaguars is creating some interesting side effects.
Michael DiRocco of ESPN reported this week that all the clocks in the Jaguars’ facility have been moved back to the correct time after Coughlin’s firing. The 73-year-old had set the clocks forward five minutes to convey a message of accountability that preached arriving early to any meeting or commitment.
“That’s the first thing I noticed when I got in here,” cornerback AJ Bouye was quoted as saying about the corrected clocks. “I thought that I was late for meetings. I look up and I had an extra five minutes, so I was good.”
“I noticed the clocks,” defensive tackle Abry Jones added. “It threw me off when I first got here. I thought that I was late. That’s probably the strongest adjustment we’re going to probably have to get used to — resetting back to five minutes back.”
Coughlin, who was fired after three seasons and one division title that netted an AFC Championship berth, instituted some other hardline tactics during his time with the Jaguars to very mixed results.
