Jalen Milroe’s Alabama teammates were reportedly fed up with him

An anonymous NFL coordinator has made a very unflattering claim about former Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe.

One anonymous AFC offensive coordinator claimed that many of Milroe’s Alabama teammates were fed up with the quarterback’s inconsistent accuracy. The coordinator even claimed that many of Milroe’s offensive teammates would have transferred had the quarterback returned to school for another season.

“He’s a 22 mph-on-the-ground guy,” the coordinator said, via Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. “He’s got a fastball that’s not very accurate. He doesn’t know when to take it off the ball. We heard out of Alabama all the skill [players] would’ve transferred if he came back. He wants to be known as a pocket quarterback and your best skill is you’re frickin’ fast.”

Obviously, there is no way to verify this, but the case being made is that Milroe did not play to his strengths at Alabama. The quarterback has been heralded as an elite runner and an underwhelming passer, but Milroe emphasized the passing side of his game with the Crimson Tide. That may have been a source of frustration to teammates, though Ryan Williams still caught eight touchdowns from him in 2024.

As unflattering as this is, it’s entirely plausible that not every team agrees with the sentiment. He has received plenty of NFL interest, and there is at least some chance he might wind up going in the first round of the draft on Thursday night.

Milroe completed 64.3 percent of his passes at Alabama in 2024, throwing for 2,844 yards with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He was more impressive with his legs, rushing for 726 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground.
