Ezekiel Elliott’s pair of fumbles got him benched and worried some watching the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, but don’t count Jerry Jones as one of them.
Elliott performed better than he did in his debut, picking up 83 yards on 21 carries, but his two fumbles saw him benched in the fourth quarter.
“Obviously you have to protect the football,” coach Jason Garrett said, via Drew Davison of the Star-Telegram. “That’s line one in football, and certainly line one for a running back. He’ll learn from the experiences.”
Jones gave Elliott a vote of confidence, however.
“Zeke does a lot for us, he actually opens it up for us out there,” Jones said. “We will take more advantage of it. Zeke is influencing very much the defenses we play. It was unfortunate that he had those back-to-back [fumbles], but boy he finishes hard. He runs hard, those are collisions out there. He’s making a lot of that happen so you get those.”
Elliott was unimpressed with his debut performance. He’s probably not thrilled with this one either. At least he knows what he needs to work on.
