People excited to see Ezekiel Elliott’s regular season debut for the Dallas Cowboys probably felt a little bit let down on Sunday. Elliott himself certainly seems it.
The No. 4 pick in the draft did get into the end zone for his first career touchdown, but was otherwise held in check, picking up 51 yards on 20 carries. Not good enough, Elliott says.
Ezekiel Elliott: "I think I was average [Sunday]. That's not why I was brought here to be average, so we've got a lot of work to get done."

He’s pretty much right. In fact, some would likely argue that even “average” is being kind. Sure, it wasn’t entirely Elliott’s fault that he didn’t produce much. His offensive line didn’t get a lot of push for him, and quarterback Dak Prescott wasn’t really throwing deep, either, thus allowing the New York Giants to stack the box.
Still, though, it was something of a rough week for Elliott, both on and off the field. The team and fans alike will expect significantly better production going forward. The good news is Elliott clearly does too, and isn’t satisfied with his middling debut.
