Jon Jones denies drag racing allegations after being busted

Jon Jones

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has found himself in trouble with the law once again.

In an appearance on “The MMA Hour” with Ariel Helwani Monday, Jones revealed that he was cited for drag racing in New Mexico last week. While he denied that he was racing anyone, Jones was issued multiple citations.

An Albuquerque Police spokesperson told TMZ that Jones was pulled over early Friday morning and issued five citations, the most significant of which was for drag racing. He was also slapped with tickets for “equipment issues” that included an illegally modified exhaust and a problem with the way his license plate was displayed.

Jones, who was reinstated by the UFC back in October, has essentially lost the benefit of the doubt in situations like this. He was fortunate to avoid jail time after reaching a plea agreement in a hit-and-run case, as he got off with community service time. Police reportedly found marijuana in Jones’ car at the time of the hit-and-run.

Jones has a history of getting into trouble outside the Octagon. In 2012, he crashed his Bentley into a telephone pole in New York and pleaded guilty to drunk driving. Then in January we learned that Jones tested positive for cocaine prior to his UFC 182 fight with Daniel Cormier.
