Josh McDaniels turns down Colts, will remain with Patriots
They say that where there’s smoke there’s often fire, and that appeared to be the case with Josh McDaniels.
Multiple reports over the past week were casting doubt about whether McDaniels would leave the New England Patriots after the season to take the Indianapolis Colts’ head coaching job. Reports were conflicting, with some saying he would stay in New England, while others (Indy-based ones) said he was still going to the Colts.
On Tuesday, the Colts even announced that they had agreed to terms with McDaniels to become their head coach and a press conference was set for Wednesday to introduce him.
Now ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that McDaniels has turned down the Colts and will remain with the Patriots.
Stunner: Patriots’ OC Josh McDaniels has decided NOT to accept Colts’ HC job and will remain with New England, sources told ESPN.

This is incredible.
Schefter says that a deciding factor was Patriots owner Robert Kraft sweetening McDaniels’ contract.
In the past 48 hours, Patriots owner Robert Kraft began talking with Josh McDaniels and ultimately wound up sweetening his contract, helping to entice him to remain in New England, per sources. Bill Belichick has his OC back.

Now that he’s back in New England, McDaniels can stick around and wait for when Belichick retires to eventually take over the Pats.
