Mitch Trubisky replaced by Chase Daniel; Bears say he had hip injury
Mitch Trubisky was replaced by Chase Daniel at the end of Sunday night’s 17-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, with the team saying the quarterback had a hip injury.
The Bears had just given up a touchdown to fall behind 17-7 to the Rams late in the fourth quarter. With around three minutes left, the Bears got the ball and Daniel was on the field with the offense. Trubisky was on the sidelines with a hat on. He was not undergoing any medical examination at the time, suggesting he had been benched.
NBC even showed video of Bears head coach Matt Nagy talking in Trubisky’s ear before Daniel entered the game.
If you’re watching on TV, you saw NBC capture this. Of course, we’ll have questions for Matt Nagy after the game. #Bears pic.twitter.com/QECPMY4irn

However, the Bears later said Trubisky was questionable with a hip injury.
Trubisky was 24/43 for 189 yards with a touchdown and interception at the time he was replaced. There has long been talk about the team being satisfied with the lack of strong play from the quarterback, and the Bears have been criticized for trading up to draft Trubisky while missing out on Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes. Their hip injury explanation will leave many fans skeptical and wondering if that’s a cover for the quarterback being benched.
