NFL reportedly institutes further Rooney Rule interview requirements
The NFL is considering major changes to the Rooney Rule, but the league has already instituted some key changes ahead of an important vote Tuesday.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the NFL will require teams to interview at least two minority candidates for head coaching positions and one minority for coordinator positions. Previously, the rule only required teams to interview one minority for head coaching jobs.
The NFL is immediately instituting changes to the Rooney Rule, requiring clubs interview at least 2 external minority candidates for head coach openings and 1 minority candidate for any coordinator job, I’m told. That's on top of two resolutions up for vote @JimTrotter_NFL noted.

There’s a significant league focus on the Rooney Rule this offseason after a hiring cycle that saw veteran coach Ron Rivera as the only minority to get a head coaching job. That has raised further concerns that black coaches aren’t getting a fair shot.
Owners are preparing to vote Tuesday on an even more significant Rooney Rule change that would significantly impact the NFL Draft.
