Rams not going to trade Cooper Kupp now?
The Los Angeles Rams were shopping Cooper Kupp in trade talks last week, but their feelings on the subject may have already changed.
Just last week, the Rams were 2-4, and it seemed like a stretch for them to be playoff contenders. But things changed.
The Rams got both Kupp (ankle) and Puka Nacua (knee) back from their injuries. The two bolstered the team’s offense in a 30-20 win over the previously 5-1 Vikings. Kupp and Nacua combined for 12 catches for 157 yards and a touchdown.
After the win, Rams head coach Sean McVay was talking like a guy who believes his team’s season is just getting started. McVay said he expected Kupp to remain with the Rams. Indeed, that might be the sentiment for the Rams now, who are 3-4.
Dianna Russini reported in a column on Saturday pointed to McVay’s comments as a hint that the team might not trade Kupp anymore. She did emphasize that if the Rams do decide to trade Kupp, the price went up. To that point, the team would not be paying any of Kupp’s salary to facilitate a deal.
Kupp has two years left on the 3-year, $80.1 million contract extension he signed in 2022. The 31-year-old receiver is making $15 million this season and set to make $20 million next season.
