The New England Patriots now have (another) former star player as their head coach in Mike Vrabel, but don’t expect Rob Gronkowski to try to follow suit any time soon.
The retired former Patriots star tight end Gronkowski spoke this week with TMZ Sports. During the interview, Gronkowski was asked whether he would ever consider coaching at the NFL level and replied that he was not interested.
“My life is just way too good right now,” said Gronkowski. “I’m just not made for that coaching life. I’ve seen what they go through. It’s one of the most stressful jobs I would say in America. I’m not down to coach 12 hours a day.
“I love the game of football, but you gotta pick and choose what’s right with the game of football for you,” Gronkowski added. “Coaching, I wouldn’t say it’s really for me in the NFL or college world … But I could see myself coaching one day when I have kids of my own, coaching their teams … even [up to] high school.”
Now 35 years old, Gronkowski won four Super Bowl titles and made five Pro Bowl teams during his playing career from 2010-18 and again from 2020-21. Since retiring (for the second time), Gronkowski has gone into television commentary for FOX and has already been part of countless classic moments on the air.
As for Gronkowski’s personal life, he has been in a relationship with longtime girlfriend Camille Kostek since 2015. If and when the couple ends up having kids, Gronkowski may then go into coaching them at the younger levels when the time comes.
