Jameis Winston will continue his entertaining NFL journey with the New York Giants next season, and Saquon Barkley believes that will be a good fit for the quarterback. We know this because Barkley suggested it nearly two months ago.
Winston agreed to a two-year deal with the Giants on Friday. The contract he signed suggests he will be a backup, but he is the best option on New York’s roster for the time being.
In the days leading up to Super Bowl LIX, Winston worked as a temporary reporter for FOX Sports. At one point, he asked Barkley if the Philadelphia Eagles star could think of any team that might want to sign Winston in 2025.

Barkley responded by taking a shot at his former team, the Giants.
“I think New York need a quarterback right now,” Barkley said.
You can see a video of the exchange here.
Barkley was just stating the obvious at the time. The Giants had moved on from Daniel Jones and secured the No. 3 overall pick in the draft, which they could still use on a quarterback. Either way, they had a need for a veteran at the position, and they chose Winston.
Winston made seven starts for the Cleveland Browns last season. Those games were an experience, as expected. He finished with 2,121 yards, 13 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions. He drew more attention for his legendary pregame speeches and surreal postgame quotes than his play on the field.
The Giants are still reportedly hoping to sign Aaron Rodgers, but the Pittsburgh Steelers are the favorite to land the former MVP. While New York wants to add more at the QB position, there is an outside chance Winston will have an opportunity to compete for a starting job.
Barkley’s suggestion — while somewhat sarcastic — was apparently a good one.
