Seahawks DE Frank Clark not impressed with Mitchell Trubisky

Mitchell Trubisky

Mitchell Trubisky played well enough to lead the Chicago Bears to a win on Monday night, but one of his opponents was not that impressed with the performance.

After his Seattle Seahawks lost 24-17 to the Bears, defensive end Frank Clark was asked for his opinion on Trubisky. He was not ready to shower the former No. 2 overall pick with praise.

“He was OK. Nothing special,” Clark said, via Eric Edholm of Pro Football Weekly. “I feel like he was OK. [He’s an] average quarterback.”

While candid, the assessment was probably fair. Trubisky completed an impressive 73.5 percent of his passes, but he threw for just 200 yards and had two interceptions to go with his two touchdown passes. Clark said he already knows the formula to get the best of the second-year QB, noting that Trubisky has a tendency to get “happy feet.”

“I felt that we should make more plays against him,” said Clark. “Pressure is his downfall; the more you can get pressure up the middle and in his face, and he throws those errant passes like that, that’s how you can beat him. We failed to do that enough against him.”

Despite appearing in 14 games during his NFL career, Trubisky has thrown for 200 or more yards just four times. He has shown flashes of play-making ability, but the Bears have yet to really cut him loose. That’s why we already heard one defensive player make a surprising admission about Trubisky ahead of Week 1.

As of now, calling Trubisky anything more than average might be an exaggeration. But it was enough to beat the Seahawks on Monday, so Clark doesn’t do himself or his teammates any favors by saying that after the fact.
