Kansas City fans may have briefly thought that they were losing both Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce this offseason … until they remembered the date.
The Chiefs tight end Kelce got in on the April Fools’ Day hijinks on Friday by playing a funny prank on fans. Kelce posted a tweet announcing that he was pulling a Michael Jordan and retiring from football to pursue a professional baseball career with the Chicago Cubs. He also shared footage of himself in the batting cage and also posing with Cubs personnel.
I've idolized MJ since I was a young athlete, while basketball wasn't my path, I've decided to follow in his steps in a different way. I’m officially announcing that I will be stepping away from football to pursue my childhood dreams with the @Cubs. Thank you #ChiefsKingdom pic.twitter.com/9s9bbmw7LV

While Kelce did not immediately confess his dastardly deed, the tweet was a pretty obvious April Fools’ Day prank. That said, the seven-time Pro Bowler can actually play baseball, having been a multi-sport athlete when he was in high school in Ohio. Kelce has also shown some notable interest in Major League Baseball ventures before as well.
With Hill now in Miami, Kelce figures to be Patrick Mahomes’ undisputed No. 1 target next season. Though retirement may be on the table in the not-too-distant future for Kelce, who will soon be 33, his supposed enterprise with the Cubs is nothing more than one of the troll jobs that Kelce has become known for.
