Tyler Eifert says Pro Bowl ‘not worth it’

Tyler Eifert

If Tyler Eifert is asked to go to the Pro Bowl, don’t expect to see him on the field.

After catching 52 passes for 615 yards and 13 touchdowns last season, Eifert earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl. However, his trip to Hawaii wasn’t as enjoyable as he would have liked. In the fourth quarter, Eifert limped off the field after attempting to make a reception. It was later determined he would need ankle surgery, which he had in May.

After last season’s experience, Eifert has made it clear something similar won’t happen this time around.

“I’d like to make it, but I’m not going to go if I got asked,” Eifert said, via ESPN.

“It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had,” he continued. “But it’s just not worth it.”

Given what happened, it’s certainly understandable why Eifert feels the way he does. The Pro Bowl, while an honor, is a largely meaningless game that carries with it the risk of injury that can impact the following season.

The Pro Bowl rosters will be announced this evening and, as is generally the case, those who actually participate in the game will likely be different than the names selected by the team captains. We know for sure Tyler Eifert won’t be suiting up.
