Police used tear gas and pepper spray on protesters to clear a path for the Olympic torch as it makes its way through Brazil to Rio de Janeiro ahead of Friday’s Opening Ceremonies for the 2016 Summer Games.
The Olympic torch arrived in Rio on Wednesday after a three-month tour of the country. In the northern city of Niteroi, at least three were arrested for their protests. Demonstrators have been angered by the high costs to host the Olympics as well as other political concerns.
