Sha’Carri Richardson is back on the come-up.
The track and field star Richardson has gotten some good news this week after her January arrest for speeding in Orange County, Fla. News 6 in Orlando reports that Richardson has agreed to a revised plea deal in which she will avoid jail time.
Richardson had originally pled guilty in the case but has reportedly changed her plea to no contest. As a result, Richardson will avoid a jail sentence but will have to meet a series of conditions, including paying a $500 fine, doing 100 hours of community service, and taking an eight-hour driving class.
The two-time Olympic medalist Richardson, 26, was arrested on January 29 in the Orlando area on a charge of “dangerous excessive speeding.” Richardson was reportedly clocked doing 104 mph with deputies claiming that she was “dangerously tailgating” and weaving in and out of lanes (read the full details here).
Christian Coleman, Richardson’s fellow sprinter boyfriend, was also arrested at the scene upon arriving after the fact and interfering with the investigation. That continued on a troubled last several months for the couple after Richardson was arrested in July 2025 on a charge of domestic violence for getting physical with Coleman at a Washington airport. The case was later cleared after Coleman declined to press charges against Richardson.
But Richardson is currently enjoying a bounceback season on the track and just won the women’s 100m title at the 2026 USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships last week (her first such title since 2024 as well as her third overall). Now Richardson has also taken a major step in putting her January super speeding arrest behind her.
