Christian Coleman got himself into some trouble of his own during girlfriend Sha’Carri Richardson’s traffic stop this week.
The United States Olympic sprinter Richardson was arrested by police in the Orlando, Fla. area on Thursday on a charge of dangerous excessive speeding. Richardson was allegedly going over 100 mph and weaving in and out of traffic on the highway (read the full details here).
TMZ Sports reports that Coleman, Richardson’s boyfriend and fellow Olympic sprinter, was also arrested at the scene. Coleman reportedly pulled up in a Black Jeep at the scene of Richardson’s stop and had to be instructed by police to return to his vehicle as he approached officers in an attempt to prevent Richardson from being arrested.
Police also say that Coleman, while walking back to his vehicle, dropped an object in the grass. Coleman also allegedly failed to comply with orders not to interfere with the stop and even supposedly refused to provide identification to officers.
Eventually, police say that they conducted a search of Coleman’s vehicle and found a “glass smoking device” in the center console with residue believed to be cannabis on it. Coleman was ultimately arrested at the scene on charges of drug paraphernalia and resisting.

Coleman, 29, is a seven-time World Championships medalist who specializes in short sprints. He is the world record holder for the indoor 60-meter (posting a time of 6.34 seconds back in 2018) and has also competed in the Olympics in the 100-meter. Coleman is the preferred opening leg for the United States men’s relay team in the 4×100 due to his reputation as one of the fastest starters out of the blocks in the entire world.
As for Coleman’s personal life, he went public with his relationship with Richardson last year. But the two have certainly had their troubles ever since then as Richardson was arrested last July on a charge of domestic violence after an ugly incident with Coleman at the Seattle-Tacoma Airport in King County-Wash.
Coleman notably declined to press charges against Richardson for the July incident, resulting in the case being dropped. He also went on to publicly defend Richardson after her July arrest.
