Jorge Posada Selling Cinco Anillos Sangria

We’ve seen several athletes and sports personalities get involved in the alcohol or beverage business. You have Tommy Lasorda marketing a brand of wines, John Calipari appearing on whiskey bottles, and Grandmama Larry Johnson selling sweet teas. We’ve even seen athletes work with Vitamin Water (and get paid handsomely for it). But I’ve never seen anyone market a bottle of sangria. Until now.

Jorge Posada and his wife are selling bottles of sangria to benefit The Jorge Posada Foundation which provides support to families and children who are affected by the medical condition of Craniosynostosis. Here is a description of the bottles from The Jorge Posada Foundation website:

The sangria is priced to be affordable; under $10 a bottle and can be enjoyed by itself or with fruit. It is bursting with the sun drenched flavors of a hot Spanish summer; the Sangria is a refreshing blend of red wine, citrus fruit flavors, and a special spice extract. Add sliced peaches, apples, and oranges or other fruits for a delicious aperitif or as a perfect pair with grilled meat. It should be served well chilled.

Give them some points for creativity with this one, though maybe Posada should get into the santeria business instead to see if it can help turn around his season. Plus, anyone notice his brand is called “Cinco Anillos,” which is Spanish for five rings? What happens if he wins another World Series, will it have to be changed to Seis Anillos? Guess that wouldn’t be too much of a problem.

You can go to Posada’s website to purchase the sangria and tap of the wine glass to Darren Rovell for the tip.
