Taylor Swift concert date changed in case Astros make playoffs

Today, I offer a mea culpa to the Houston Astros.

Roughly two months after the 2014 MLB season ended, I found it downright hilarious that the Astros had booked a Taylor Swift concert at Minute Maid Park on a date that would fall in the middle of the MLB playoffs. The tentative date for the 1989 World Tour to make its way to Houston was October 13. Many, myself included, interpreted that to mean that even the Astros were writing off their 2015 team in advance.

In case you haven’t noticed, the Astros are currently 55-45 and only a game out of first in the NL West. They could very well make the playoffs, which is why the Taylor Swift concert has been moved to Sept. 9.

“The new show date will ensure that fans of Taylor Swift will have every opportunity to see her perform at Minute Maid Park, as the September 9th date does not conflict with any potential postseason baseball,” the team said in a statement.

I believe the words I used last year were “in the incredibly rare event” that the Astros make the playoffs. That rare event could become a reality in a few months.
