John Harbaugh immediately linked as potential Dolphins candidate
The NFL head coaching cycle is far from over. Following the Miami Dolphins’ firing of Mike McDaniel on Thursday, 25% of the league now has a head coach opening.
The Dolphins moved on from McDaniels after four seasons, and within minutes, former Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh was already linked as a potential candidate by several NFL insiders.
As of last night, the Miami Dolphins had had no contact with John Harbaugh or his camp, per sources.
— Peter Schrager (@PSchrags) January 8, 2026
I'd expect that to change.
And if you're connecting dots, Chad Alexander (interviewing for Dolphins GM job) has a long history with Harbaugh from their Baltimore days.
It's worth mentioning that the Dolphins put in five GM requests on Monday. The one on Chargers assistant GM Chad Alexander didn't go in until Tuesday—the day John Harbaugh was let go in Baltimore. Miami owner Stephen Ross has a lot of history with the Harbaugh family. …
— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) January 8, 2026
With John Harbaugh available, and #Dolphins owner Stephen Ross' ties to the family, he now looms as a key candidate for Miami. A reason to fire a coach, with the thought that they could get Harbaugh.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 8, 2026
The Ravens fired Harbaugh on Tuesday after he spent 18 seasons with the franchise, and he instantly became the best candidate available in the cycle. The New York Giants are reportedly “all-in” on Harbaugh, and even seven NFL teams had inquired about his availability just an hour after he was fired.
The Dolphins link is evident, and one of the four GM finalists for Miami is Los Angeles Chargers assistant Chad Alexander, who spent time with Harbaugh in Baltimore.
ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington also said the Dolphins have yet to be in contact with Harbaugh.
“I’m told the Dolphins have not yet been in touch with John Harbaugh or anyone in his camp, and people close to the decision are adamant this decision to move away from McDaniel is independent of Harbaugh’s availability.”
Of course, things could change on that front, especially if Alexander gets the GM job in Miami and advocates for Harbaugh to come to South Beach.
Dolphins fire head coach Mike McDaniel after four seasons
The NFL head coaching cycle took another turn on Thursday.
Two days after the Baltimore Ravens fired John Harbaugh, the Miami Dolphins decided to fire Mike McDaniel. After four seasons in Miami, Dolphins Owner and Chairman Stephen M. Ross said it is time for a “comprehensive change.”
“After careful evaluation and extensive discussions since the season ended, I have made the decision that our organization is in need of comprehensive change. I informed Mike McDaniel this morning that he has been relieved of his duties as head coach,” Ross said in a statement.

— Miami Dolphins (@MiamiDolphins) January 8, 2026
McDaniel, who was the San Francisco 49ers’ offensive coordinator previously, was hired in 2022 to replace Brian Flores.
McDaniel led the Dolphins to two playoff appearances in his first two seasons, both ending in a first-round loss.
However, the last two seasons have resulted in losing records, and the Dolphins finished 7-10 in 2025 despite an ugly 1-6 start.
All signs pointed to McDaniel returning in 2026, but those tides have changed just a few days after the regular season came to an end.
McDaniel finishes with a 35-34 record as Dolphins head coach, and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler had even linked him to the Cleveland Browns before they had moved on from Kevin Stefanski.
The Dolphins are also searching for a new GM and have narrowed down their list to four finalists, so it has been a busy week in Miami.
Trevor Lawrence had a hilarious response after viral bar video
Days before the Jacksonville Jaguars play their first NFL playoff game since 2023, Trevor Lawrence found himself at the center of a video that has gone viral on social media.
The said video showed the former Clemson Tigers star quarterback getting squatted by a woman at Pete’s Bar in Neptune Beach, Fla., according to the New York Post. It was an incredible feat, considering that the woman, Natasha Lane, was much smaller than the 6-foo-6, 213-pound Lawrence.
You can watch the video here.
Not many people are strong enough to do multiple squats while carrying a large human being, but Lane managed to pull it off, as though she was trying to audition for a position on the Jaguars’ offensive line.
On Wednesday, Lawrence addressed the viral clip.
“We can all move on now, I know you guys were worried about it,” the former top NFL draft pick told reporters, via a video shared by Rachel Phillips of First Coast News.
“Just having a good time, I guess. I don’t know how to describe this. I did not think that was going to happen. It was interesting. They have phones now. They record everything.”
Lawrence and the Jaguars were already having a good time long before that moment, as that took place following Jacksonville’s 41-7 win in Week 18 over the Tennessee Titans.
That victory officially clinched the AFC South title for the Jaguars, who will be playing Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Wild Card Round on Sunday at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
Fans want Mark Pope fired after Kentucky’s latest debacle
Many Kentucky Wildcats fans have seen enough of head coach Mark Pope.
As the Wildcats remain winless in SEC play, Pope has become a big target for a Kentucky basketball fanbase that is growing more restless.
On Wednesday, the Wildcats suffered an embarrassing 73-68 loss to the Missouri Tigers at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky., leaving Kentucky with a 0-2 record to start conference play.
Wildcats fans were hoping for Kentucky to have a strong bounce-back performance against Missouri following an 89-74 defeat at the hands of the No. 14 Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Ala., but instead witnessed their team struggle to repulse an unranked visitor.
Shortly after Missouri recorded its first-ever win at Rupp Arena, calls for Pope to be sacked started to show on social media.
Fire Mark Pope. There is no excuse for this. He had every resource available to him.
— travis peak (@fatmantrav79) January 8, 2026
Mark Pope sucks.
— Jeff (@JDeck2) January 8, 2026
The team is a brutal watch.
They also despise playing with each other.
This program is broken.
Fire Barnhart. Fire Pope.
I’m officially done with the mark pope experience. This just can’t continue for another year and a half. Losing that game especially the way they did is a fireable offense in itself.
— Trevor Huber (@huber_trevor) January 8, 2026
FIRE MARK POPE THIS WEEK! Make Mark Fox interim HC for the rest of the season. Pope has turned this program into the laughing stock of CBB, and he spent 22 million to do it.
— A Fatigued UK Fan (@dubsack270) January 8, 2026
Prediction:
— Mike Justice (@justmikejustice) January 8, 2026
3-15 in SEC play, 12-21 on the season.
If we don't fire Pope tonight, take it to the bank.
As it stands, Kentucky is just 1-5 against ranked opponents so far in the 2025-26 college basketball season. The Wildcats also only have two Quad 1 victories, and their debacle versus Missouri gave them a Quad 3 defeat. Overall, Pope’s squad is 9-6.
It is not too late for the Wildcats to turn things around, but Pope’s seat is not going to get any cooler if Kentucky takes another blow on Saturday, when the red-hot Mississippi State Bulldogs swing by Lexington.
Mike Brown wants Ty Lue to pay up for a bet made in 1998
The New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Clippers met on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y., which meant another opportunity for Mike Brown to finally settle an old bet with fellow NBA head coach Ty Lue.
Apparently, Lue still owes the Knicks head coach money from a shooting contest that took place before the turn of the millennium
“Ty, you making $14 million this year? I think it was just $100. Who’s here from the Clippers media? Please, help me get my money,” Brown said during the postgame press conference following the Knicks’ 123-111 win over Los Angeles.
Here’s the video of Brown’s hilarious message to the Clippers head coach:
"Ty you making $14 million this year? I think it was just $100. Who's here from the Clippers media? Please, help me get my money"

– Mike Brown on Ty Lue owing him $100 from a 1998 shooting contest
Brown claims Lue won't pay up
Lue claims Brown refuses when he tries to pic.twitter.com/J07sACCicI
To backtrack, Brown was still an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards in 1998, while Lue was just in his NBA rookie season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Brown will be fine without ever getting that $100, and Lue won’t be driven to poverty if he pays it. If anything, this could just be a fun discussion for the two head coaches whenever they cross paths.
A hundred dollars is nothing for these men, but for that bet to become some sort of recurring gag that has lasted over two decades makes it priceless.
Draymond Green gets a reality check from Steve Kerr
The Golden State Warriors got back on track on Wednesday by defeating Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks, 120-113, at Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif., but there is still plenty of work to be done for the Dubs.
Warriors veteran forward Draymond Green acknowledges one area the Warriors can improve, as emphasized to him by head coach Steve Kerr.
“We’re not the same team we used to be,” Green told reporters about the message he got from Kerr about the Warriors’ turnovers, via Anthony Slater of ESPN.
“The league has changed. Teams feast on those turnovers.”
Green apparently listened to what Kerr said, as he only had a turnover in the Bucks game. He is turning the ball over 2.8 times per outing in the 2025-26 NBA regular season, but the do-it-all forward has been more careful with the leather of late, with only a turnover in three of his last four games.
As a team, Golden State coughed up the possession just 10 times against the Bucks, who turned those turnovers into 8 points.
While not a high-usage player, Green always gets plenty of touches as one of the chief facilitators of Golden State’s offense.
On the season, the 35-year-old Green is leading the Warriors with 5.4 assists per game.
Kristaps Porzingis had a sad reaction to Trae Young’s departure
Kristaps Porzingis is already missing Trae Young.
With the Atlanta Hawks sending star point guard Trae Young to the Washington Wizards in a blockbuster trade Wednesday, a big void has opened up, particularly in the team’s playmaking — and Porzingis was quick to highlight his now-former teammate’s elite passing ability.
“I was getting, like, open looks all the time,” Porzingis said, expressing regret over the short time he was able to share the court with Young following the Hawks’ 117-100 victory at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Ga., according to Kevin Chouinard of Hawks.com.
“Of course, I wanted to play with him more, you know?”
Porzingis is just in his first season with the Hawks, who acquired him in the summer from the Boston Celtics via a three-team trade that also involved the Brooklyn Nets. Young played only 10 games in his final season with the Hawks due to a right knee injury, while Porzingis also missed several games with an illness, leaving the Hawks with a limited sample of the two stars together on the floor.
On a lighter note, Porzingis shared a great pun that earned some laughs to describe Young’s impact on the floor.
“Obviously, he’s one of the best passers that I’ve played with. And I think everybody was benefiting from playing with him. Offensively, he’s really a wizard.”
Porzingis went on to give Young more praise, as he and the Hawks begin life without the former Oklahoma Sooners star.
“He’s an amazing player, amazing, amazing player. And I’m sad, I’m sad I didn’t get more time with him.”
Despite Young’s departure, Porzingis can expect the Hawks to continue moving the ball well.
Through Wednesday, Atlanta is leading the NBA this season with 31.2 assists per game and second overall with a 71.6% assist rate.
Luka Doncic offers his honest opinion on the stunning Trae Young trade
Luka Doncic knows what it’s like to be part of a groundshaking NBA trade, and he commented on another one that happened on Wednesday.
After Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers suffered a 107-91 loss to the San Antonio Spurs at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, Doncic shared his thoughts on Trae Young’s stunning trade from the Atlanta Hawks to the Washington Wizards.
“I have a lot of respect for him,” Doncic told reporters, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN. “So if he’s excited for this new journey, I’m excited for him.”
Like Doncic, Young was still at his peak as a face of a franchise when the Hawks decided to send him to the Wizards in exchange for veteran guard CJ McCollum and forward Corey Kispert. Doncic was shockingly traded last February by the Dallas Mavericks to the Lakers, a transaction that continues to generate buzz to this day.
It remains to be seen whether Young’s switch from Atlanta to Washington will be a win for all parties involved, but it does end a long-running saga for the Hawks, who did not want to deal with more drama involving him and his decision on his future. The former Oklahoma Sooners star has a player option worth $48.9 million for the 2026-27 campaign.
Doncic and the Lakers can get a closer look at the Young-infused Wizards on Jan. 30, when Los Angeles visits Washington at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
Rashee Rice facing disturbing allegations of domestic violence from ex-girlfriend
Rashee Rice is once again making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Dacoda Jones, Rice’s ex-girlfriend, made some very disturbing allegations against the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver in a post to Instagram on Wednesday. Jones, who is also the mother of Rice’s two children, accused Rice of “abuse for years” and said her life had been “nothing but hell” since she broke up with Rice a couple of months ago.
In the post, Jones accused Rice of “put[ting] his hands on me” while she was pregnant, locking her outside of their home in 10-degree weather, and “cutting up” her clothes and shoes (in addition to “multiple instances” of supposed cheating). Jones also shared several troubling photos of her injuries and damage to property that allegedly came at the hands of Rice.
You can see Jones’ full post at the link here (but beware that the content is graphic).
While the post did not mention Rice by name, the situation was serious enough that the Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday. “The club is aware of the allegations on social media and is in communication with the National Football League,” said the Chiefs. “We have no further comment at this time.”
Rice, 25, just completed his third career season with the Chiefs, catching 78 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns through eight games. But the part of the reason why Rice played so few games was that he was suspended by the NFL for six games due to his various legal issues.
The most notable of those legal issues was Rice’s 2024 hit-and-run incident during which he allegedly caused multiple injuries by driving 119 mph in his Lamborghini while racing another car (with Rice ultimately pleading guilty to two felony charges and being sentenced to jail time). Now Rice is under scrutiny once again for another disturbing off-the-field situation.
Saints make a major decision on their starting QB position
The New Orleans Saints have identified their quarterback of the future.
New Orleans is prepared to move forward with Tyler Shough as their starting QB for the 2026 season, Katherine Terrell of ESPN reported on Wednesday. Terrell also quoted Saints head coach Kellen Moore as saying that the team feels “great with Tyler.”
“Tyler’s done an awesome job through this entire process,” said Moore. “He’s gotten a ton better. He’s taken advantage of a bunch of opportunities. We’re excited to have a full offseason to build.”
The 26-year-old Shough was New Orleans’ second-round pick in last year’s NFL Draft (No. 40 overall). After four-time Pro Bowler Derek Carr surprisingly announced his retirement before the 2025 season, Shough lost the ensuing quarterback battle to Spencer Rattler.
But Shough ended up winning the QB1 job by Week 9 after a brutal stretch of play by Rattler. Despite the Saints’ overall roster deficiencies, Shough was a relative bright spot, going 5-4 as the starter with 2,384 passing yards, 10 passing touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Shough also added 186 more yards and three more touchdowns on the ground as New Orleans won four of their last five games of the season.
Many were skeptical when the Saints used such a high draft pick on the former Louisville QB Shough. But Shough has clearly done enough at this point to warrant a permanent place as the QB1, leaving New Orleans free to use their top-eight pick in this year’s draft on a different position of need instead.
Trae Young walks off after being traded mid-game in a surreal scene
The cameras were very much on Trae Young as news of his blockbuster trade broke on Wednesday.
The Atlanta Hawks made the major decision Wednesday to trade away their four-time All-Star Young after seven-and-a-half seasons with their team. Young is headed to the Washington Wizards in exchange for a couple of notable players (full details here).
Interestingly enough, the trade report surfaced right in the middle of Atlanta’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans. The game was even taking place at the Hawks’ home of State Farm Center in Atlanta, Ga. (with the Hawks eventually winning 117-100).
Young, who was not playing due to a quad injury, was actually present on the bench during the game. When news of the trade broke in the fourth quarter, Young began saying his goodbyes to various Hawks staffers and fans.

The four-time All-Star Young then later walked off into the tunnel for the last time as a Hawks player while fans filmed him extensively.

We have seen instances in the past of rotation players awkwardly being traded in the middle of games. But this time around, it was the Hawks’ longtime franchise centerpiece in Young who was sent packing in the middle of a game.
Former All-Star pitcher surprisingly decides to sign with the Rockies
The Colorado Rockies have surprisingly managed to land a (somewhat) big name.
Free agent right-hander Michael Lorenzen has decided to sign with the Rockies in free agency, Jeff Passan of ESPN reported on Wednesday. Lorenzen is signing a one-year, $8 million contract with Colorado.
On top of that, Lorenzen’s contract will also carry a $9 million club option for the 2027 MLB season.
The 34-year-old Lorenzen was an All-Star with the Detroit Tigers in 2023. Last season with the Kansas City Royals though, Lorenzen regressed some, going 7-11 with a 4.64 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP through 26 total starts.
The Rockies are not exactly a top destination for free agents, especially after finishing a miserable 43-119 last season (which was by far the worst record in Major League Baseball). Colorado has also done extremely poorly in the recent past with signing former All-Stars in free agency, particularly the nightmare contract that they gave to former NL MVP Kris Bryant before the 2022 season.
But at $8 million, Lorenzen should be very well worth the risk for the pitching-depleted Rockies. Lorenzen made some major baseball history a few years ago and should be the frontrunner to headline the Colorado rotation in 2026, albeit at the extremely hitter-friendly Coors Field.
Trae Young gets traded to an Eastern Conference team in blockbuster move
Trae Young is officially en route to a new team.
The Atlanta Hawks have traded away their multi-time All-Star point guard Young to the Washington Wizards, Shams Charania of ESPN reported Wednesday. Washington will sending guard CJ McCollum and forward Corey Kispert back to Atlanta in return, Charania adds.
Young, 27, had been the centerpiece of the Hawks franchise for the last several years. He made four All-Star teams with Atlanta, led the NBA in assists in 2025, and led the Hawks to an Eastern Conference Finals berth in 2021.
But the 6-foot-2 Young very quickly fell out of favor in Atlanta this season with the emergence of Jalen Johnson as a new foundational player as well as the development of newer ball-handlers such as Dyson Daniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. With the Hawks holding serve this season at 17-21 (10th in the Eastern Conference) despite Young missing significant time due to knee and quad injuries, they have decided to finally pull the plug on the Young era.
Atlanta is still doing right though by Young, who was their top-five draft pick back in 2018. Reports emerged earlier this week that the Wizards were Young’s preferred trade destination, and now the Hawks have managed to send him just there. With Young having been rumored to be unhappy in Atlanta for at least the last several months, this is about as amicable of a split as the two sides could have had.
As for the Wizards, they are a woeful 10-26 this season but are clearly looking at the long-term with Young. The former All-NBA selection Young is making $46 million this season with a $49 million player option for 2026-27. But Washington will obviously be looking to extend Young and bank on his 20-point, 10-assist upside to carry them for years to come.
Multiple arrests made in connection with burglary of Shedeur Sanders’ home
Local authorities have officially announced multiple arrests in connection with the November break-in of Shedeur Sanders’ home.
The Medina County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio said Wednesday that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the burglary, per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN. A fourth suspect is still at large though with an active warrant for his arrest.
Additionally, the sheriff’s office said that roughly $200,000 in property was stolen during the break-in at Sanders’ home. You can read the full report on the situation here.
The burglary occurred on Nov. 16 at Sanders’ residence in Granger Township, Ohio (a suburb of Cleveland). That was when the Browns were playing at home against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11, a game that the Ravens went on to win 23-16.
Notably, Sanders was making his NFL debut at the time of the crime. Details also later emerged about how exactly the suspects were able to burglarize Sanders’ home.
The 23-year-old Sanders had a shaky rookie season for the Browns after taking over as the starting QB in Week 11. He was 3-4 as the starter, throwing for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns. But Sanders also fired 10 interceptions, and other more advanced statistics showed just how poorly the ex-Colorado star played.
Kendrick Perkins accuses Warriors of failing Steph Curry
The Golden State Warriors still do not look like title contenders this season, even though Steph Curry continues to perform at a high level. Kendrick Perkins believes it’s time for the team to look in the mirror.
In an appearance on ESPN’s “NBA Today” Wednesday, Perkins said the Warriors have failed Curry by not being able to “get right” while the star guard continues to excel. He even namechecked coach Steve Kerr and forwards Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler as being to blame.
“Everyone has failed Steph in this organization,” Perkins said. “We’re talking about an all-time great. I’m talking about Steve Kerr, Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler — they can’t get right. This man is averaging 28 points on 47% shooting right now, damn near 40% from the three, and y’all can’t get right. We’re talking about a window where he’s trying to max out minutes and go win a championship.
“You didn’t trade for Jimmy Butler last year just to come in and sign him to an extension and be No. 8 in the Western Conference. What’s up with your player development? Why can’t Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga thrive under Steve Kerr? They are failing Steph Curry to the max right now.”
.@KendrickPerkins on the Warriors:
— Chef (@CurryForGame) January 7, 2026
“Everyone has failed Steph in this organization. We’re talking about an all time great . . . Steve Kerr, Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler, they can’t get right. We’re talking about a window where he’s trying to max out to win a championship . . .” pic.twitter.com/Bqsxc3jw8b
Perkins does pose some relevant questions here. The Warriors have failed to develop their draft picks, including Kuminga, who appears likely to get traded at this point. Green’s on-court conduct remains an issue, and that has led some to label him a liability at this point in his career. Butler is averaging 19.7 points per game, but a strong third option has yet to emerge in the offense.
Even by Golden State’s standards, tensions appear rather high this season. We have heard that Curry is treating this as something of a last ride, and if so, a 19-18 start to the season is likely not what anyone had in mind.
The Warriors are still all-in, as evidenced by some recent trade rumors. They seem to be more than one player away at this point, though. That is a shame for how well Curry is playing.
Ole Miss coach Pete Golding had perfect response to an awkward Lane Kiffin question
Lane Kiffin continues to hover around Ole Miss’ run in the College Football Playoff, even though he is no longer with the team. His replacement on Wednesday offered perhaps the firmest comment yet on why his predecessor no longer matters.
Golding was asked ahead of Ole Miss’ CFP semifinal against Miami whether he had a message for Kiffin, who left just before the playoff to take over at LSU. Golding kept it simple and turned it into a comment about his team.
“I think our team had a message by how they prepared and how they played and that they weren’t tired of playing,” Golding said. “I do think the message is, I’m replaceable, you’re replaceable, our players are replaceable. You want to build a program to where it’s heading in the right direction, and one person, one player, anything like that is not going to derail that. There’s been too much invested in that, and it’s been aligned correctly, that one person is not going to impact something so drastically. If it is, it’s probably not built right.
“The only thing that was different is who’s running them out of the tunnel. And to be honest with you, I don’t think the players give a damn who runs them out of the tunnel. They care about their playing. They care about getting held accountable and how they’re going to prepare. And they care about people that care about them. That’s been the message our players have created. I don’t have s–t to say to anybody else.”
“I think our team had a message… that they weren’t tired of playing. They care about people that care about them… But I don’t have s—t to say to anybody else.”@OleMissFB HC Pete Golding when asked if he had a message for Lane Kiffin 🎤 pic.twitter.com/bqQITHcq93
— Fiesta Sports Foundation (@Fiesta_Bowl) January 7, 2026
Golding has a tough task in fighting off the talk about Kiffin, who built the program up. On the other hand, as his former defensive coordinator, it’s unlikely that Golding is making any fundamental changes to how things are run. As he indicated, the program is the same, and is larger than any one individual.
One Ole Miss player has even accused Kiffin of trying to steal the team’s shine. Golding will not go that far publicly, but one can understand why he would love to draw a line underneath the Kiffin talk and move on.
Jim Harbaugh knows where he wants his brother John to coach next
Jim Harbaugh is not worried about whether brother John will find a new head coaching job. His primary worry appears to be where it will be.
The Los Angeles Chargers coach was asked Wednesday about the Baltimore Ravens’ decision to fire John Harbaugh after 18 seasons. Jim Harbaugh predicted that John will be a head coach next year, and called his brother “the best coach I’ve ever seen.”
His one wish for John? Go to the NFC.
“Whatever team he goes to is going to be formidable, and I just hope it’s in the NFC,” Jim said.
Jim Harbaugh on John Harbaugh being let go by the Ravens: "John Harbaugh is the best coach I know, the best coach I’ve ever seen. …Whatever team he goes to is going to be formidable, and I just hope it’s in the NFC."
— Daniel Popper (@danielrpopper) January 7, 2026
Harbaugh added: "He’ll be a head coach next year."
Jim and John had both been in the AFC for the last two seasons since Jim took the Chargers job. They were in opposite conferences earlier in their careers, and John even beat Jim in Super Bowl XLVII.
Jim Harbaugh’s assessment of his brother’s career prospects is almost certainly correct. Not only will John get a head coach position next year, but he might well have his pick of them. Jim would presumably be comfortable with one team that is pursuing John with everything they have.
Jerry Jones gets mocked for his ambitious goal
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is aiming high — perhaps too high, in the minds of some.
Jones addressed his plans for the Cowboys offseason on Wednesday, and he sounded a very ambitious note. The Cowboys owner made clear that his aim is to retire having won more Super Bowl titles than any owner in NFL history.
“My goal in life is to retire as the owner that won the most Super Bowls,” Jones said. “We’ve got three. I’ve got work to do. But at least I’m up to the second rung of the ladder.”

Jones is 83 years old and has won 3 Super Bowls. #Patriots owner Robert Kraft leads with 6.

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has won six Super Bowl titles. Jones has to win four more to get his wish, and he last won one in 1995.
Few people were particularly optimistic that Jones would achieve his goal.
You have ZERO chance Jerry

— Grady (@GradyKnowsBall) January 7, 2026
Jones is prone to ambitious hyperbole and occasionally outrageous claims. The Cowboys owner may well have the goal of passing Kraft and the Patriots before he calls it quits, but the 83-year-old is going to really have to get moving on that.
Report: Dan Quinn had issues with Kliff Kingsbury
The Washington Commanders on Tuesday parted ways with Kliff Kingsbury as their offensive coordinator. There were apparently some legitimate reasons for the move, at least as far as head coach Dan Quinn is concerned.
Grant Paulsen, who is a host for 106.7 The Fan in Washington D.C., reported on Tuesday about the situation. He says that one of the biggest issues Quinn had with Kingsbury concerned the balance of runs vs. passes in the Commanders’ offense. Furthermore, Paulsen says Quinn wants someone who runs a traditional offense to help with Jayden Daniels’ development.
I'm told Dan Quinn and Kliff Kingsbury disagreed over several things; run-pass balance being high on the list.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) January 6, 2026
It also seems like DQ has a different vision for what's best for the long-term development of Jayden Daniels. Kliff runs a very unique, college-like system. DQ may…
The change in feelings towards Kingsbury represent a dramatic shift from 2024.
The Commanders went 12-5 last season, in what was Quinn’s first season on the job and Daniels’ rookie year. Kingsbury’s offense was 5th in the NFL in points and 7th in yards. All seemed great. But in 2025, Daniels got hurt and only played in 7 games. The Commanders went 5-12 and fell to 22nd in the league in offensive yards and points scored.
Someone had to answer for the Commanders’ negative season, and it was Kingsbury. And what worked and looked great in 2024 didn’t go as well in 2025, and now he’s out of a job.
Daniels passed for 1,262 yards, 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, with 278 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns this season. As a rookie, he passed for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns and 9 interceptions, while adding 891 rushing yards and 6 rushing touchdowns.
Mark Cuban is bankrolling Indiana’s football success
How did Indiana go from being the least successful program in college football to becoming a powerhouse overnight, beating the likes of Ohio State and Alabama? Hiring the right coaches and adding the right players is a big reason for it, but these days with NIL, you also have to have someone funding the operation. And the Hoosiers have one of their most famous — and richest — alums footing the bill.
Mark Cuban, who is a minority owner of the Dallas Mavericks and worth an estimated $6 billion, donated big money to the Indiana Hoosiers athletic department last year to help them build up for the 2025 season. The season has been a complete success, which led Cuban to donate even more money for 2026.
“Let’s just say they are happier this year than last year,” Cuban told Front Office Sports for a story published Wednesday.
Cuban was part of the 1981 graduating class at IU and has been known for hanging out in Bloomington, Ind., and treating students at local bars. He has historically donated money to Indiana University, but never to its athletic department until last year. The success of the football team during Curt Cignetti’s first season, coupled with a nice meeting with the coach, led him to donate. Now that the team is 14-0, he donated even more money to help them build for the 2026 season. That’s part of how they landed their new quarterback.
Obviously Indiana had some other alumni helping out to bring Cignetti to Bloomington and attract players for the 2024 season, prior to Cuban getting involved. But having a billionaire like him now involved can help keep the NIL wheels churning year after year, giving them the best chance of success.
