Commanders agree to $129.5 million guaranteed in deals with two players
The first day of the NFL free agency negotiation period was extremely busy.
Plenty of massive contracts were agreed to, although they can’t be signed until the new league year begins on Wednesday. On Monday afternoon, the Washington Commanders got into the action in a big way.
First, the Commanders gave a two-year extension to offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil, paying him a total of $61.5M in guaranteed money.
Commanders Pro Bowl Lt Laremy Tunsil reached agreement on a 2-year, $60.2M contract extension with Washington, per his business manager Laolu Sanni of Divine Tree.

Then, the Commanders agreed to terms on a deal for former Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers pass rusher Odafe Oweh. The deal is four years, $100 million, with a total of $68 million guaranteed.

Oweh, the Ravens’ first-round pick in 2021, was traded to the Chargers in the 2025 season. Oweh played in 12 regular-season games for LA, totaling 7.5 sacks.
Last March, the Commanders acquired Tunsil in a trade with the Houston Texans, and they now keep the talented offensive lineman in town for at least a couple more seasons.
According to Over The Cap, the Commanders had just under $87 million in cap space entering free agency, so they have been aggressive on Day 1 already.
NBA announces news about Hawks’ controversial promotion
The Atlanta Hawks’ controversial Magic City night is no longer going to take place.
On Monday, the NBA decided to cancel the promotion that was set for March 16 against the Orlando Magic.
The event was set to honor Atlanta’s Magic City strip club, and it was going to feature music, merchandise, and the strip club’s iconic lemon pepper wings
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released a statement on the decision to cancel the promotion, citing “significant concerns from a broad array of league stakeholders.”
“While we appreciate the team’s perspective and their desire to move forward, we have heard significant concerns from a broad array of league stakeholders, including fans, partners and employees. I believe canceling this promotion is the right decision for the broader NBA community,” Silver wrote as part of the statement.
The following has been released by the NBA. pic.twitter.com/jzbUW8t73Y
— NBA Communications (@NBAPR) March 9, 2026
San Antonio Spurs center Luke Kornet pushed back regarding the initial idea, saying it would “reflect poorly” on the NBA if there wasn’t a protest. Kornet also said that other players had expressed their frustrations about the promotional event.
Former Hawks star Al Horford agreed with Kornet, writing “Well said Luke” in response to Kornet’s long message asking for the event to be canceled.
Now, the NBA is canceling the event amid all of the pushback.
Jaguars consider trade offers for standout wide receiver
The Jacksonville Jaguars may be ready to part ways with a wide receiver who not long ago was considered a future star.
The Jaguars are entertaining offers for wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., according to Connor Hughes of SNY. Jacksonville was resistant to trading Thomas at the deadline last year, but are now willing to at least listen to offers.

Both the #Jets & #Giants explored Thomas at the traded deadline last year, but Jacksonville wasn't willing to do any deal.
That stance has changed.
Thomas had a down 2025 (48 catches, 707… pic.twitter.com/VwpsvjdG0E
Thomas appeared to be on the fast track to stardom in 2024, when he tallied 87 catches for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie. His second year was less successful, and his numbers fell to 48 catches for 707 yards and two scores. He struggled to gain a rapport with Trevor Lawrence, and the Jaguars brought in Jakobi Meyers to essentially usurp him on the depth chart.
It might seem premature to give up on a talent like Thomas this quickly, but the Jaguars clearly think he is at least expendable. It remains to be seen what the asking price is, though this is not the first time we have heard about a potential trade.
Both the New York Jets and New York Giants had previous interest in Thomas. They may both come back to check in on him again now.
Tua Tagovailoa signs 1-year deal with Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons have landed their top quarterback target.
Tua Tagovailoa is signing a one-year deal with the Falcons, according to multiple reports. The move comes on the same day the Miami Dolphins formally decided to move on from the quarterback.
The Falcons targeted Tagovailoa and got him quickly. They need insurance due to Michael Penix Jr.’s torn ACL, even though Penix hopes to be ready for the start of the season. Atlanta wanted to add competition for Penix anyway, and Tagovailoa clearly feels he will at least get the chance to win the starting job at some point.
For Tagovailoa, he gets the opportunity to rebuild his career under a respected offensive coach in Kevin Stefanski. If he can flash some of what once made him a first-round pick, he might be in line for a bigger deal a year from now.
Tagovailoa threw for 4,624 yards in 2023, but injuries and poor play have tanked his stock since. He played 14 games last season and threw for 2,660 yards with 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, and had lost his starting job with Miami by the end of the season.
Mike Evans is leaving the Buccaneers
Wide receiver Mike Evans is leaving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after 12 seasons.
Evans has agreed to a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers, according to multiple reports. The decision came despite the Buccaneers making a strong effort to keep him.
In a statement, Evans’ agent Deryk Gilmore admitted the Buccaneers made a strong offer and said his decision to leave was not a reflection of his feelings toward the organization. Instead, the veteran receiver simply wanted a new challenge at this stage of his career.
“At this stage of his career, Mike’s goals remain the same as they have always been — to compete for another Super Bowl, to play in an offensive system that challenges defenses, and to be in an environment where he can continue to push himself and contribute at the highest level,” the statement read. “In the end, this decision simply came down to Mike wanting a new challenge and a fresh opportunity while he still feels he has a great deal left to give the game.”
Few believed Evans would ever leave Tampa, but the time was right for him to do so. He departs as one of the most accomplished players in Bucs history, with 13,052 receiving yards and 108 touchdowns to his name. He was also part of the team’s Super Bowl championship in 2020.
Evans reportedly valued a chance to play for a contending team with a significant role and a high-quality offensive staff. He will find that with the 49ers. The Niners went 12-5, reached the NFC Divisional round, and have a big hole in their wide receiver room with Brandon Aiyuk departing and Jauan Jennings likely to follow him. Add in Kyle Shanahan as head coach and Evans seems to have landed in the ideal situation.
Travis Etienne signs $52 million contract with new team
Travis Etienne is heading back home after four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Etienne is signing a four-year, $52 million contract with the New Orleans Saints, according to multiple reports. While Etienne had interest from elsewhere, he prioritized the Saints in order to return to his home state of Louisiana.
Saints are giving Travis Etienne a 4-year, $52M deal, per source. https://t.co/aREXhLavow
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 9, 2026
The Saints get younger and more dynamic with Etienne, who is coming off a resurgent season with the Jaguars. He ran for 1,107 yards and scored seven rushing touchdowns for Jacksonville as the franchise returned to the postseason. He should have a big role alongside quarterback Tyler Shough in trying to get the Saints back there for the first time since 2020.
The addition of Etienne also calls into question Alvin Kamara’s future with the Saints. He did not want to leave before the trade deadline, but Etienne seems likely to be slotted into a big role in the New Orleans offense that would probably eat into Kamara’s touches.
The Saints have finished last in the NFC South in back-to-back seasons. They did show signs of life in 2025 by going 6-11 under first-year head coach Kellen Moore.
Breece Hall takes shot at Jets’ spending
New York Jets running back Breece Hall has taken note of the team’s spending on the first day of legal tampering in free agency.
The Jets used the franchise tag on Hall after the two sides failed to agree to a long-term contract. That did not stop the organization from spending big to start free agency, as the team traded for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and signed edge rushers Joseph Ossai and Kingsley Enagbare and linebacker Damario Davis to contracts. Fitzpatrick was signed to a $40 million extension, while the other three players signed for a combined $68 million.
That left Hall wondering when he might see some of that money.
“Damn we sure got a lot of money in Florham Park all these contracts dudes signing,” Hall wrote on X.
Damn we sure got a lot of money in Florham Park all these contracts dudes signing🤣🤣🤣
— Breece Hall (@BreeceH) March 9, 2026
Hall is not upset that the Jets are spending money. He just wants to know why they were not willing to spend it on him. He did not seem particularly thrilled to get the franchise tag, which would pay him roughly $14.3 million. The fact that another back got $15 million a year on a long-term contract on the open market probably does not make him feel any better, either.
Hall totaled 1,415 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns last season. He was the subject of trade rumors during the campaign, and one has to wonder if he even has a long-term future with the Jets at this point.
Malik Willis lands $67.5 million contract in free agency
Quarterback Malik Willis has landed his starting job in free agency to go along with a hefty new contract.
Willis is signing with the Miami Dolphins as a free agent, according to multiple reports. He is getting a three-year deal worth $67.5 million, with $45 million of that guaranteed.

He gets a 3-year, $67.5M deal with $45M fully guaranteed in a contract negotiated by @DavidMulugheta of @AthletesFirst. pic.twitter.com/bhIpxV3UrK
Willis joins the Dolphins on the same day they released Tua Tagovailoa and should slot in as the team’s new starter. This was an expected outcome, as Willis was seen as a good option by multiple quarterback-needy teams. The Dolphins always appeared to be the most logical landing spot, as former Green Bay defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is Miami’s new head coach. New Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan was also hired away from the Packers, where Willis spent the last two seasons.
Despite his inexperience as a starter, Willis flashed enough to convince teams he is worth a shot. In two seasons with Green Bay, he threw for 972 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions, and went 2-1 as a starter in place of Jordan Love.
Willis’ deal will pay him an average of $22.5 million per season. That is a lot less than what some rumors suggested he would be able to earn on the open market.
Kenneth Walker leaves Seahawks to join AFC team
Reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker is leaving the Seattle Seahawks to join another championship-winning organization.
Walker is signing a three-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to multiple reports. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that the deal could be worth as much as $45 million.
It’s a three-year deal worth up to $45 million for Kenneth Walker III, who becomes the highest-paid free agent deal for a running back in nfl history. https://t.co/a9vasdqT67
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) March 9, 2026
The Chiefs are clearly trying to retool their offense, and Walker will be an enormous part of doing so. He should become their unquestioned No. 1 back and provide some consistency in a rushing attack that has struggled for consistency in recent years. The eventual presence of Patrick Mahomes will also be good for him, as defenses will have to watch for both the mobile quarterback and Walker.
Walker rushed for 1,027 yards last season, the second time in his career he topped the 1,000-yard mark. His real coming out party was during the playoffs, when he ran for 313 yards and four touchdowns in three games. The Seahawks opted against using the franchise tag on him, which would have allowed them to keep Walker for at least one more season.
The Seahawks will miss Walker, but already split his carries with Zach Charbonnet, who should immediately become the team’s clear No. 1 option. Charbonnet suffered a torn ACL during the playoffs, however, so Seattle will probably have to bring in a reliable option for next season.
Tua Tagovailoa is being strongly linked to an NFC team
One team has emerged as a clear favorite to sign Tua Tagovailoa following the quarterback’s release from the Miami Dolphins.
The Atlanta Falcons are being heavily linked to Tagovailoa, according to multiple reports. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that Tagovailoa is being viewed as an insurance policy for the team while Michael Penix Jr. recovers from a torn ACL.
Lefties unite? The #Falcons are making a strong early push to sign former #Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa, sources tell The Insiders.
— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) March 9, 2026
With Michael Penix recovering from a torn ACL, Atlanta is making a move for an economic contingency plan and competition at the position. pic.twitter.com/ZOOuePeCIy
The Falcons would be able to sign Tagovailoa for a minimum salary because the Dolphins will still be paying off the remainder of his contract.
For Atlanta, Tagovailoa appears to be a low-cost safety net to compete with Penix and allow the Falcons not to rush him back. While there may be other suitors, Tagovailoa was linked to the Falcons almost immediately, and they would appear to be heavy favorites to land him.
Tagovailoa has been linked to other teams as well. With Atlanta, however, he would be able to work with a well-respected offensive coach in Kevin Stefanski who might be able to help his career get back on track.
Tagovailoa lost his starting job in Miami last season after throwing 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 14 starts.
Victor Wembanyama’s casual admission will demoralize Spurs rivals
Victor Wembanyama admitted that he just wings it sometimes.
Following Sunday’s game against the Houston Rockets at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, the San Antonio Spurs star big man was asked to explain a couple of his ridiculous shots in the contest, including the one where he made a tough one-handed shot in the third quarter.
“Yeah, I wasn’t expecting to palm the ball on the one-hand shot, but it’s just, I’m just freestyling sometimes,” Wembanyama said.

Wembanyama surely works hard on his craft and tries to improve his game in practice. But hearing him say that he experiments with his shots in live competition makes his existence as a basketball player feel even more surreal.
There are just not many answers to a 7-foot-4 player who can do everything on both sides of the court and has the audacity to make moves on the fly.
Against the Rockets, the 22-year-old Wembanyama dropped 29 points on 9/13 shooting with 8 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 steals and an assist to help San Antonio score a 145-120 win.
With their win, the Spurs improved to 47-17 and stretched their winning streak to four games, which they will carry into Tuesday’s home meeting with the Boston Celtics.
Packers trade Rashan Gary to NFC team
The Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys have agreed to another trade involving a defensive player.
Several months after the Packers shook the football world by acquiring superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons from the Cowboys, the two teams have agreed to a new trade that sends defensive tackle Rashan Gary from Green Bay to Dallas.
The trade was reported on Monday byAdam Schefter of ESPN, who later specified that Green Bay is getting a 2027 fourth-rounder in return.
Gary grabbed attention on Friday when he posted—and later deleted—a farewell message for Green Bay.
As it turned out, that post spoke the truth about Gary’s offseason fate, as he is now set to join former Green Bay teammate and veteran defensive tackle Kenny Clark in Arlington. Clark was part of the package that the Packers sent to Dallas in exchange for Parsons in 2025.
The 28-year-old Gary is under contract through the 2027 NFL season. He signed a 4-year, $96 million contract extension with Green Bay in 2023.
In 2024, he earned his first (and still only) Pro Bowl nod, racking up 7.5 sacks and 15 quarterback hits in 17 games. The following season, the Michigan Wolverines football product produced 7.5 sacks and 20 quarterback hits in 16 games.
It remains to be seen whether the Cowboys will follow up the trade with another move to shore up their stop unit, but there’s still the looming NFL free agency for them to make some noise in.
Rasmus Dahlin had an amazing message after beating the Lightning
Rasmus Dahlin is relishing the success the Buffalo Sabres are having in the 2025-26 NHL season.
The job is far from done for the Sabres, but for a franchise that is closing in on a sure spot in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2011, what Buffalo has accomplished thus far is giving Dahlin all the feels.
“It’s just finally. Finally, we’re here and doing good things, so I don’t take this for granted at all,” Dahlin told reporters after Buffalo’s 8-7 victory on Sunday over the Tampa Bay Lightning at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, N.Y, via Dom Tibbetts of 7 News WKBW. I’m so fired up, I’m so happy for the Buffalo, the city and all the fans.”
Dahlin, who had a goal and 2 assists against Tampa Bay, has every right to feel that way. Up until this season, he had never taken even a sniff of the playoffs since making his NHL debut in 2018. From the 2018-19 season to the 2024-25 campaign, Dahlin and the Sabres finished just fifth or worse in their division.
This time around, the Sabres are atop the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference with a 39-16-6 record (84 points).
With a seven-game winning streak, the Sabres will look to sustain their form on Tuesday, when they host the San Jose Sharks.
Fans say the same thing after Michael Porter Jr.’s ‘toxic ex’ claim about the Nuggets
Michael Porter Jr. got candid about his former team, the Denver Nuggets.
During a recent appearance on “The Emily Austin Show,” the Brooklyn Nets forward shared his true feelings about the idea of seeing the Nuggets win it all again, but without him.
Although he said he would be fine with the Nuggets claiming another NBA title, he’d also not be the happiest person because it would further vindicate Denver’s decision to get rid of him.
“I’d love it, and hate it, if Denver won,” the 27-year-old Porter said. “I’d love it because those are my friends. But I’d hate it because that means they got better without me. I’m like a toxic ex.”

— horse (@Mataji__) March 8, 2026
The Nuggets parted ways with Porter following the 2024-25 NBA season, trading him to the Nets along with a 2032 first-round pick in exchange for forward Cameron Johnson. Porter’s departure hasn’t really hurt Denver, which remains a serious NBA title contender. Injuries have taken a toll on the Nuggets, but when fully healthy, there is a case to be made that they’re the best team in the league.
Porter, who helped the Nuggets win the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy in 2023, is having a career season in Brooklyn, where his green light to shoot never seems to switch off. But he’s also not going to win a title with the Nets this season, with the team still in rebuilding mode.
Dolphins make their decision on Tua Tagovailoa official
The Miami Dolphins have made it official: they are done with Tua Tagovailoa.
The AFC East club announced its decision to part ways with Tagovailoa, with Miami general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan releasing a statement on Monday.
“I recently informed Tua and his representation that we are going to move in a new direction at the quarterback position and will be releasing him after the start of the new league year,” Sullivan wrote.
As indicated by Schefter, the Dolphins’ decision to cut the former Alabama Crimson Tide star QB with a post-June 1 designation means Miami will be burdened with a record-setting $99 million in dead money. The Dolphins will absorb $55.4 million of that dead money in 2026 and $43.8 million more in 2027.
Nevertheless, the Dolphins can now move on from their saga with Tagovailoa, as they look to kick off a fresh start. That dizzying cap hit proved to be a price Miami was ultimately willing to stomach just to reset things under center.
Miami was either going to trade Tagovailoa or release him. But attempting to trade such an expensive asset, with considerable questions about his health and future, made it difficult for the Dolphins to go that route.
In six seasons with Miami, Tagovailoa, who was the fifth-overall pick at the 2020 NFL Draft, passed for 18,166 yards and 120 touchdowns against 59 interceptions in 78 games, including 76 starts.
Video: Rickie Fowler jokingly tries to push a caddie toward an alligator
Rickie Fowler gave a caddie quite a scare during the final round of the 2026 Arnold Palmer Invitational at the Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Fla.
When a caddie tried to get a closer look at an alligator in the water, Fowler snuck up behind him and jokingly tried to push him in.
Here’s a look at what happened.
Gotta keep your head on a swivel when Rickie Fowler is around 😂 pic.twitter.com/hLXe6gND6T
— PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) March 8, 2026
It was nothing but harmless fun between Fowler and the caddie, but one wrong step and things could have taken a wild turn.
Gators will always be part of Florida’s ecosystem, and that includes golf courses.
As mentioned on the broadcast, the moment was reminiscent of a moment in 2017, when Cody Gribble gave an alligator a tap that sent it splashing into the lake. Interestingly enough, that was also an Arnold Palmer Invitational in the same location.
As for the performance of the 37-year-old Fowler, he finished tied for ninth at 8-under 280. He shot a 70 in the fourth round, but could have done much better if not for a double bogey on the eighth hole and a bogey on the 18th.
Nevertheless, Fowler still came away with his first top-10 finish in the 2026 PGA Tour season — and became richer by $578,000. He has been playing consistently this season, making the cut in all five of his starts so far.
Nikola Jokic shares honest thoughts on potentially leaving Denver
Nikola Jokic let his feelings be known about the idea of him leaving the Denver Nuggets.
The Serbian superstar, who has long been an elusive figure off the court, surprised fans with his insightfulness in an interview he did with European hoops figure Edin Avdic on the X’s & O’s podcast. Jokic got up close and personal with Avdic, who interviewed Jokic in his native Serbian tongue.
When asked about him potentially playing for another team aside from the Nuggets, Jokic unequivocally shut down the idea.
“I wouldn’t like to imagine that,” Jokic said, translated via DNVR. “Even if we never win anything else after this, an organic title, it means more to me than anything. I really found peace here. My two kids were born here. Everyone’s here. Peace, home, I found my life here. And I like life here. I don’t feel the need, I don’t have the urge to. We built something here, together as a team.”
Jokic seems to want to follow the Dirk Nowitzki model of sticking with one team for the rest of his career. With a championship ring already in his trophy case, Nikola already sounds content enough to ride out the rest of his days in Denver.
It’s always possible that Jokic changes his mind. Milwaukee Bucks big man Giannis Antetokounmpo, a European-born player himself, appeared to be headed down a similar path before his team’s recent struggles sparked trade rumors.
The Greek Freak has been vocal about feeling let down by a Bucks organization for which he won a title in 2021. However, the Joker appears to be in a league of his own when it comes to being content with where he’s at.
If anything, it’s amazing for Nuggets fans to hear (or read the subtitles of) a two-hour interview with Jokic, who has famously dodged the media every chance he gets. Reporters looking to get some airtime with Jokic may need to start learning to speak Serbian.
You can check out the full interview with Jokic here.

The Knicks infamously traded five first-round picks to acquire Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets, reuniting him with his former Villanova teammates, Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and temporarily Donte DiVincenzo.
Bridges impacts the game in more ways than just scoring. He’s also one of the most durable players of all time, never missing a single game in his NBA career. But it’s fair for fans to expect that a player worth multiple first-round picks, let alone five, should never be held scoreless against an opponent that isn’t exactly stacked with lockdown defenders on the perimeter.
Bridges entered Sunday’s game against the Lakers averaging 15.5 points through 64 contests, Mikal’s lowest mark since the 2021-22 campaign. His scoreless outing hurt his average — and his reputation among Knicks fans — even more.
