Attention ladies: if you ever want to know how to make your sport interesting, this is how it’s done. Oklahoma women’s college basketball player Courtney Paris went out and made pretty much the guarantee of the century. Simply said, she put her money where her mouth is:
Last week during a speech on senior night, Paris guaranteed the Oklahoma women’s basketball team would win a national championship. And if they didn’t, she’d repay her scholarship. Even, as she put it, if it took the rest of her life.
…
We can win a national championship. If we don’t, I’ll feel like I didn’t earn my scholarship.”
Now that’s one heck of a way to look at things. I’ll say this much for her — she has my attention and a new fan. Two issues for Paris though. One, UConn and its 31-0 record (though that type of comment is an excellent motivational tactic). Secondly, she better pay back that scholarship if she loses. You don’t make that sort of claim if you’re not going to follow through on it — that would be way bush league.
