Gregg Marshall reportedly was not even planning to attend Final Four

Gregg MarshallGregg Marshall went from not even planning to be in attendance at the Final Four in Atlanta this year to coaching his team to the heralded event.

Wichita State has become one of the most surprising stories of the NCAA tournament. The No. 9 seed Shockers won the West Region of the NCAA tournament by beating No. 8 Pitt, No. 1 Gonzaga, No. 13 La Salle, and No. 2 Ohio State. The stunning run was unexpected for even the Shockers head coach.

According to a tweet from broadcaster Dave Friedman, Marshall told Friedman the day before Selection Sunday that he was not planning to be at the Final Four in Atlanta because his daughter had a volleyball tournament.

The Final Four is a big gathering spot in the college basketball world not just because of the games, but also because the National Association of Basketball Coaches holds its annual convention at the Final Four.

So how about that? Marshall is not only a great basketball coach, but also an awesome father. Too bad UCLA already committed to Steve Alford, because Marshall is a coach on the rise and would have been much better.
