Rex Ryan says Bills are his ‘last stop in coaching’

Rex Ryan Bills

Rex Ryan is either banking on having a lot of success and longevity with the Buffalo Bills, or he’s planning on taking an early retirement.

The new Bills head coach told USA Today’s Lorenzo Reyes that Buffalo will be his last stop in coaching.

“This is definitely going to be it,” Ryan told USA TODAY Sports. “This is my last stop in coaching, and then when my days are up, I’ll turn it over to the younger generation. I’m not going anywhere else.”

This is Ryan’s second head coaching job following six seasons with the Jets. He led the Jets to consecutive AFC Championship Games but then the team began to sputter behind poor quarterback play and a loss of significant talent. After losing the support of ownership and being doomed in his final season with the Jets, he was welcomed with open arms in Buffalo.

Ryan is only 52 years old, so he better be planning on having a long stay in Buffalo because this would be too early of a retirement for him. My guess is that was his point; the Bills have a strong defense, and Ryan would love to be there for a decade and build a dynasty to supplant the Patriots atop the AFC East. We’ll see whether they can enjoy the type of success Ryan is hoping to have.
