Rex Ryan to Patriots: I think we’re going to beat you

As you might have expected, it took Rex Ryan no time at all to get his gums flapping with his team getting ready to take on the Patriots this weekend. New York will use the next week to build off its impressive win over the Colts while New England will try to figure out why they were incapable of closing out the Seahawks after leading 21-10 in the fourth quarter.

After seeing what the Patriots could not do against Seattle, Ryan is confident his team can get the best of them in Foxboro on Sunday.

“I want them to know and they know that I think we’re going to beat them,” he said according to the Boston Globe. “I don’t buy into all that other stuff. But I recognize they’re a great football team and (Bill) Belichick’s a great coach. I’ve never once said that he wasn’t. But again, we’re not going to back down or concede anything.

“They’re going to get our best shot. We know we’re going to get theirs. So it really doesn’t matter who says what, but we’re going to be ourselves. We’re coming up there to take our swing. We’ll see if we land that punch to win the game.”

While some will say there’s no need to give an already frustrated team even more bulletin board material, we know by now that Rex isn’t going to change. He’s always good for a Super Bowl guarantee and can never resist the opportunity to take a shot at his division rivals. The Jets talked plenty of trash leading up to their playoff game in New England two years ago and they came away with a win. With both teams sitting at 3-3 and the AFC East lead on the line, no one should have expected this week to be any different.
