Tim Tebow reportedly chose Jets because he thinks he can beat out Mark Sanchez

Remember how Tim Tebow said Wednesday that he already received a nice voicemail from Mark Sanchez the day he was traded to the Jets? Yeah, well so much for playing nicely.

The New York Daily News reports that Tebow chose to be traded to the Jets over the Jags because he feels he can beat out Sanchez and become the starter. Tebow denies being consulted in the trade talks, but reports, and John Elway, say otherwise.

The first report suggested Tebow chose the Jets because he felt more wanted by their coaches and front office. The Daily News report supports that claim and says owner Shahid Khan was the only Jags representative who wanted Tebow. We offered another potential reason for Tebow’s preference to go to the Jets over the Jags — New York gives him a larger platform to spread his religious message.

The Daily News report seems to be pretty obvious; wouldn’t Tebow feel that he can beat out Sanchez for the job? Sanchez struggled last season and Tebow beat him head-to-head. Maybe Tim figures if Sanchez struggles he’ll receive an opportunity to become the starter and he’ll seize it.

Lastly, the Daily News report says the Jets want to put pressure on Sanchez and think that having Tebow around will push him to elevate his play. We shall see. I’m with Tebow — I think he eventually unseats Sanchez as the starter.
