Alex Rodriguez ‘at peace’ with potential release by Yankees
Alex Rodriguez’s days as a New York Yankee look to be numbered, and he seems okay with that.
With the Yankees selling at the trade deadline and turning to a younger, cheaper core, they have little incentive to give the struggling Rodriguez plate appearances. That has led to a lot of speculation that he may be released in the days to come.
Whatever happens, Rodriguez says he understands.
“I know that the organization has a brighter future today than it did last week and hopefully I’m part of that equation,” Rodriguez said Tuesday, via Pete Caldera of the Record. “But if not, I can accept it very clearly.
“No matter what happens, I’m at peace with myself. If not, I have two beautiful daughters waiting for me in Miami.”
Rodriguez has received just 38 at-bats since the start of July. It doesn’t appear likely that that will change anytime soon, particularly since he’s hitting just .204 in the at-bats he has received. For that reason, he may not see out the season in New York, though the team maintains that they have not yet discussed that possibility.
