Just months after leaving the Houston Astros, Martin Maldonado could be heading on back.
Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reported on Sunday that the Chicago Cubs have marketed the veteran catcher in trade talks ahead of the Jul. 31 deadline. In those discussions, the Astros have emerged as a particular team of interest.
The former Gold Glover Maldonado, who is batting .217 this year, played for Houston in 2018. He left as a free agent to sign with the Kansas City Royals this past offseason and was then traded to the Cubs earlier this month.

The Astros’ current catcher duo of Robinson Chirinos and Max Stassi leaves a bit to be desired, particularly defensively, and reacquiring Maldonado is one of several possible improvements that are in play for the AL West leaders.
