Colby Rasmus slide ruled illegal, costs Astros game
For the second time this week, the new slide rule enacted by MLB over the offseason cost a team the game. This time the Houston Astros saw their game end when the slide rule was used to call out Colby Rasmus in the ninth inning.
The Astros were facing the Brewers and trailing 6-4 with one out and men on first and second in the top of the ninth. Jose Altuve was at the plate and hit a slow chopper to second. Scooter Gennett fielded the ball and threw to short for the putout to make it two outs. However, Rasmus’ slide was ruled to be illegal, so both he and Altuve were called out, ending the game.

Rasmus’ slide can certainly be considered a take-out slide, which is exactly what MLB is trying to get rid of. That’s why the call was upheld upon review.
Here’s the slide by Jose Bautista from during the week that cost the Blue Jays against the Rays.
