David Ortiz breaks silence after returning from hospital, thanks fans

David Ortiz

David Ortiz was released from the hospital on Friday after spending nearly two months under the care of doctors, and the former Boston Red Sox slugger has issued his first statement since being shot on June 9.

Ortiz took to Instagram on Monday morning to confirm he has been sent home with his family, and he thanked fans for their support.

“Being at home and look at my family celebrating that lm here safe is priceless… Thank for all the prayers,” Ortiz wrote. “Too bad l can’t crush food yet!!!!”

Ortiz was enjoying dinner and drinks in his home country of the Dominican Republic when he was shot in the back in an attempted assassination. The bullet exited through his stomach, and Ortiz underwent extensive surgery in the Dominican Republic before being transferred to Mass General Hospital in Boston. He then had to undergo more surgical procedures and had some complications earlier this month, so the fact that he has been released is great news.

Police in the DR have arrested multiple people associated with the Ortiz shooting. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, but some associated with it claimed it was a case of mistaken identity.
